The rooms of this hotel are located in several Victorian era terrace houses, which is a nice change from a modern concrete building. The hotel is in a very convenient location less than 5 minutes walk from the train station. There are trams and buses that pass by frequently. Edinburgh castle is only 30 minutes walk away. Michael, the son of the owner, was very friendly and carried my suitcase along the road and up the stairs to my room. I booked a single room which was quite small, but typical of Victorian buildings had a very high ceiling. The furniture looked rather tired, but there was a small table/desk under the window. There were USB charging sockets next to the table, which was a surprise considering the age of the building! Even though the bathroom was small the shower was very good with good temperature and water control. The bed was a bit "creaky." Even though the room and furnishing were quite old, I think the owners got the important things right. The high ceiling, tired furniture and creaky bed were actually part of the charm of this Victorian building, although it might not suit everybody. I believe these buildings are "Listed" so there is a limitation on how much modifications can be made to the structure. For instance there are no lifts. If you like a hotel with character, in a good location and don't expect "all mod-cons!" The Haymarket Hotel might be worth checking out.

The hotel is obviously not like any chain hotels and has a unique perspective. It has a great location with 10-15 min travel time to old town by tram, which operates every 10 min during the day. There also plenty of busses available right behind the corner. You can easily travel to the city center, to Leith (e.g. distilleries, HMY Britannia) and to the west city (e.g. zoo) from the same public transport stop. The location itself is a charming and quiet place with rooms located in several houses. It has a great breakfast with continental option and cooked meals, which are being served quickly and taste good. It has a bar with very little people inside which might be a plus for someone looking for a place to rest. The staff is exceptional, polite and friendly.

Lovely large room with high ceilings, beautifully decorated, facing the street. Lots of space to spread out and be comfortable. En suite was beautiful, very modern. Location is really great, just feet from tram and bus stops and also the train. You can walk to central Edinburgh in under 15 minutes. Dean Village is very close and lovely to stroll through. Heating in room is perfect, hot water was plentiful. Also about parking: there is abundant street parking about 1/4 mile to the west in Wester Coates, which the desk clerk astutely referred me to. From 5:30 pm to 8:30 am, it is free and easily managed. Otherwise, one must pay (about 4 GBP per hour!).

The hotel was very nice! I was traveling alone and had picked one of the less expensive cozy rooms and it was perfect for me! It was a very good price that I paid for the week I stayed and I have only wonderful things to say about The Haymarket Hotel! The people at the front desk and restaurant were so friendly and helpful. They even had the night porter come and knock on my door at 4 am because I was worried I wouldn't wake up for the airport! They said it was no problem and just went above and beyond for me. It is also located on a quaint and quiet cobblestone street that is lovely!

One of the best things about the hotel was how close it was Haymarket, the Edinburgh tram stop and parking locations in the city - it was very easy to find the place. Our room was really large and had lots of amenities such as coffee, robes, slippers and the four poster bed was a nice touch that elevated the stay. We checked out a little later than what was advertised but were assured this was no problem. While the room is old, you can tell that the bathroom has been newly renovated.
